If you are here, you probably are installing/just installed the new Minecraft Launcher, in that case you might find this video useful - it shows how to restore your "profiles" (aka minecraft versions) from the old launcher to the new one. Now your Minecraft Launcher icon should look the same as it looked for the old launcher! I recommend not deleting it (and putting it somewhere different than the downloads folder so you dont accidentally delete it ) ico file, then the Minecraft Launcher icon can change after you restart the computer. ico file (in this case "minecraft.ico") and click OK
